The Phoenix Coyotes pulled off a great victory last night, topping the San Jose Sharks 5-3. This was a big win for the young team because the Sharks have got the best the Yotes most of the time this season. Captain Shane Doan showed up to play and demonstrated his leadership on the ice with 2 goals and one assist.
The Coyotes, picked by many to place dead last in the Western Conference are sitting at the half way point of the season in a dead heat for the number 8 spot and a playoff berth. There is a soft mumbling of Wayne Gretzky winning the Jack Adams Trophy should the squad make the playoffs.
The Coyotes are very similar to the Diamondbacks. Both teams are very young, both teams play hard with what they have while not having a bona fide star, and both have been the beneficiary of great coaching.
Win of lose, this team plays hard end to end every night, and their efforts are paying off. I am excited to see what happens in the second half, there is sure to be some great hockey to be played.
